Having a hard time convincing your spouse to massage your tired back? Then maybe it's time to make an appointment for a professional massage. Debbie Kuehn reports the treatment seems to be getting more popular... If you think getting a massage is something reserved for movie stars and millionaires... (Therapist to client) Is the pressure good? ...think again. (Marie Sanders - LMT, DK Massage) That's how it used to be. People always thought it was just for pampering, but now everyone's learning that there are many more benefits than just pampering yourself. Just visit the local yellow pages and you'll discover a host of massage therapists around town. Why, at a time when we've got computers to do work at the touch of a finger...do we need the trained fingers of a massage therapist? Marie Sanders says sitting at a computer can actually be a strain on our bodies. (Marie) Muscle or just like tension headaches just by causing upright shoulders all the time... just a lot of desk work people. We do a lot of either chair massages or full body massages... people that sit at a computer all day long. (So there's a lot of injuries?) Yeah, repetitive strain injuries if you're constantly doing the same things over and over each day. And there are different types of massage for different needs. Some therapists specialize in sports therapy...others in recovery from work injuries and still others in neuromuscular needs. Whatever the case, Marie says it goes beyond pampering yourself. (Marie) If you don't take care of your body, definitely, yes, you can have a lot more injury and massage therapy is kind of working your way toward rehabilitation and more rehab than just relaxation. There's nothing more pressing than taking care of your health. And if you feel like a movie star doing it, that's even better. Debbie Kuehn, KX News. Marie says massage is gaining more respect by the medical community every day.
